Winning Poker Strategy

By PokerMan Dan

There are many different ways to look at poker strategy. You can look at it as a tactic, an approach, a policy, or even a plan. The main goal behind creating a winning poker strategy is to make the most out of winning hands and keep your losses to a minimum when you have the losing hand. No one strategy is right for all players. Each player has their own weaknesses and strengths. One's strategy needs to be formulated around said strengths and weaknesses. What works for you probably will not work for another poker player and vice a versa.

Folding when you know you have the weakest hand regardless of how much money is in the pot is a strategy that is of paramount importance. Most new players are under the belief that if they have a lot of money invested in the pot even though they hold bad cards that they must continue to play the hand. All this is doing is setting them up for losses and frustrations.

Also being able to bet more when holding two weak cards in Texas hold'em is a strategy that at some point in your poker playing career you must learn to employ properly. While this strategy is great for keeping other players on their toes when playing against you, you must not lean on this poker strategy to often as it will give people the idea that you are a weak player and in turn they will become far more aggressive when playing against you.

To become a world class poker player you must learn to employ every trick and tool in your poker arsenal. This can take years for someone to completely master. Sometimes even the best hand can lose when not played properly and no amount of analyzing and contemplating will be able to fix it once the improper play has been played. That is why it is so important to come up with a long term poker strategy that suits your game and will make you a winner over the long haul.

Don't get to anxious to become a poker legend. It will not happen over night. You need to keep your head on straight and keep your eyes on the prize. Don't get to discouraged over even to over excited. Just stay even keeled, employ winning poker strategies at all times, and most of all stay within the limits of your bank roll. Poker is gambling and there is no such thing as a sure bet.
