Online Poker a Walk Through

By PokerMan Dan

The huge surge in the popularity of online poker is generally credited to the ease of being able to play poker against people from all over the world without ever having to leave the comforts of your own home. There really are a multitude of benefits of playing poker online from home. No dress code, no travel time to and from the poker room, the rake is much less then the average brick and mortar poker room, and the list goes on and on.

Online poker rooms have little to no overhead cost, which means that they can and a lot of them do just pass the savings right on to you the player. Some of the benefits that are passed on include, great bonuses when you deposit money into a room, a great comp system, free roll tournaments, and games that are up and going 24/7. You can almost always find whatever game it is that you are wanting to play. Whether it be a large multi-table tournament, or a micro limits heads up game. It is all available for you online. Another great benefit is being able to play more then one table at a time. This is commonly referred to as multi-tabling. Basically if you are a good player and want to maximize your profits you can play in more then one game at the same time. This just is in no way possible when you are playing poker live.

Before you even consider how easy it is to get started playing poker online or the sheer amount of options that you have while playing there are still other greater benefits. The amount of hands that will be played online versus playing live is one of the best tools for new comers to learn the game and become successful in a short amount of time. They only draw back to this great benefit is that someone who has only played poker online and never played in a live game will easily become bored at a live game as the pace is much slower.

In the online poker world you need not be worried about giving away the strength or weakness of you hand by a nervous twitch, shaky voice, or sweating just a bit to much. The only thing that can give away anything in the online game is how long it takes you to make a decision on how to act when it is your turn to play, and even this is not much of anything as quite a few people play more then one table so it is not out of the norm for someone to take a long time to act.

The largest problem with the online poker game is also one of the benefits of it. Being able to easily fund and deposit money at online poker rooms. Being able to fund your poker account can also lead to big problems for the player that does not have much skill and loses a lot of money. This player will just keep losing and losing until they cannot lose anymore. Bankroll management is very key to learn for the new player so as not to lose everything to the game of poker. It is important to make sure you set limits and keep to them.
