Online Poker Winnings

By Pokerman Dan

Are all poker players who play online required to report their earnings on their taxes?

There isn't anyone one answer that would apply to everyone for this question. Depending on the country in which you reside the laws could be different. In the US and Canada for instance it is very highly advised to turn your winnings into the IRS and the Canadian Dept. of Revenue.

This particular income will be tax as any other normal income would be. In the US this would reason to be right around thirty percent. Small amounts here and there really are not all that big of a deal, but if you do happen to win a large sum of money some online casinos will ask you to fill out tax forms before the money is released to you.

If you do happen to make a lot of money playing online poker and don't report it at some point down the road this could catch up with you and cause big problems. While filing earnings is indeed the right choice don't worry if you have made to much money. Under some tax laws you may be able to claim your losses and this should help offset some of your winnings.

There are a few websites that have been setup so that a player is able to track how much that they have made or lost playing online poker at a particular site. All a person needs to do is search out one of these sites and enter their user name on the poker site. They will then be able to see what their win/loss record is.

Making money playing online poker can still be done in the US it just takes a bit of looking around to find the rooms that allow you to play. Full tilt poker is one site that allows players from the US and they have said that they have no intention of ever stropping this practice.
