Beginning A Home Poker Game

By Thom Riemersma

Now that you are the expert of the game, you realize that you are a professional player and have confidence on your game. Betting patterns are easy for you to detect and you can tell who the real pro is and who is just bluffing. You have enjoyed a lot of good games online but now you are ready for something more. How about hosting your own games from the comfort of your home?

Initially there are some things you need to do to set up the game. Firstly you should think about poker chips. You can solve this problem by getting a high-quality poker chip set. The chips come in different styles, and can be made from; clay composite or plastic. There are good and bad points for each poker chip material. It is worthwhile to choose your chips carefully.

Once you've decided on the kind of poker chip you want, go out and get your set! A good poker chip set will consist of anywhere from 500 to 1500 poker chips, two decks of cards, a carrying case, and a dealer button. This should be all you need as far as basic equipment is concerned.

Secondly you should think about what sort of poker table you need. You want to preserve your new investment of poker chips and not have them hitting the hard surface of an ordinary table. Plus the chips will handle better with a decent poker table. Your fellow gamers will enjoy doing their tricks and raise their bets. You never know your luck. You may win back the money you invested in your table in a relatively short time. Of course we all know how hip a poker table will look to your gaming friends.

Finally you need people. Chances are you already have a group of poker buddies so spread the word that you're starting a weekly game and see if you can pull in 5 to 9 people. If you and your cronies come up short, you can always do a google search for poker clubs in your area. Chance are there's a group of like-minded poker buffs looking for someone with a poker table and a nice poker set to host some games. One post and maybe a couple of emails and you're set!

Apart from enjoying the actual game of poker you can also enjoy making new friends when you play. You can make use of a local bar to post your games. You will soon gather enthusiastic poker players for your weekly games.
